NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) – Several churches in Nacogdoches are coming together to serve others by repairing the homes of East Texans in need. However, the cost of inflation leaves the group in need of donations to get the job done.

The organization is called MissionNAC. There are about 20 houses currently under construction, but a team leader says the cost of plywood and other materials has multiplied, making the need for donations greater.

They have about 500 volunteers, who each pay a $30 fee that helps fund their projects. But $30 doesn’t last like it used to.

“The 2×4s have gone up three, four times, and we’re using a lot of 2-by-4s. Shingles, yeah, everything has had its detrimental effect,” says Brian Kile, one of the crew chiefs.

They fix everything from paint touch-ups to complete floor replacements and even get on the roof if needed. A lady who is redoing her house had a falling floor. So the band completely tore up the floor and added a new backing and carpet. It’s something volunteers are grateful to be a part of.
