The World Steel Association, also known as worldsteel, has chosen Posco as one of 39 sustainability charter members that proactively adopts the steel industry’s sustainability principles, according to the South Korean giant. steel. A total of 142 companies and associations around the world are members of worldsteel.
The recognition of members of the sustainable development charter was introduced this year to show that a steelmaker has been qualified to meet the principles of sustainable management of worldsteel.
Worldsteel has added the principles of climate action and responsible value chains – the key environmental, social and governance or ESG factors in the steel industry – to its sustainability charter. Existing principles include circular economy, environmental protection, safety, health, local communities, innovation, prosperity, and ethical and transparent operations.
Posco said it met the standards by receiving environmental and safety certification from the International Organization for Standardization, disclosing carbon emissions and pollutant information from a life cycle assessment perspective, putting implementing supply chain policies taking ESG into account and strengthening communication with stakeholders.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, Posco is committed to building a green future by fully supporting the new worldsteel charter,” said Posco CEO Choi Jeong-woo.
The company said it will continue to help make the world a better place based on its corporate citizenship management philosophy. Posco plans to lead the steel industry’s low-carbon transition by developing hydrogen reduction steelmaking technology to create a sustainable future, he added.
